dusk/dawn: Space LAb x Lighting Event and HOM(e)AY Launch

The UP College of Architecture (UPCA) through a grant from the UP President’s Committee on Culture and the Arts (PCCA) will officially launch the Space (LAb) x: Space x (Landscape + Architecture + Laboratory) x Experiences Project this 26 April 2024 (Friday) from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM. This event is part of UPCA’s participation in the series of events under PCCA’s Day of Remembrance.

The Space (LAb) x Project is inspired by the concept of artificial nature. It features a meandering pavilion that explores the play of the natural within the artificial environment of the College of Architecture’s Building 2. The pavilion features various elements made of cut and processed bamboo poles, metal sheets, and a lawn area made of artificial turf. The reflective surface where the installation is assembled serves as proxy to the analogue nature, reflecting back the trees and sky as we redefine our path with our relationship with nature.

The first part of the program will feature two back-to-back talks on architecture with Asst. Prof. Leonido M. Gines, Jr. from the History, Theory, and Criticism Studio Laboratory of UP College of Architecture, and Ar. William T. Ti, Jr., founder and CEO of WTA Architecture and Design Studio.

The second part of the program is a ritual dance/presentation by UP Filipiniana Dance Group to formally present HOM(e)AY ng Pangarap, a UPD-OICA sponsored installation, that spotlights the various stages of rice cultivation while weaving in the poignant narratives of Filipino migrant rice farmworker families whose children have successfully completed their degrees at the UPCA.

In its participation in the UP Diliman Arts and Culture Festival 2024, “HOM[e]AY ng Pangarap: HOMage to the UP Dreams of palAY farming families” installation. Set against the UPCA Atrium, the exhibition features an immersive land art installation. Inspired by the mosaic of rice fields, intersected by a path leading towards the UP dream, the installation aspires to be a visual testament to the intertwined aspirations and sacrifices of the institution and the families it serves.

The final part of the program is the lighting and launching of the Space (LAb) x Installation, which will be celebrated together with very special guests from the University of the Philippines: UP President Angelo A. Jimenez and UP Diliman Chancellor Edgardo Carlo L. Vistan II.

The UP College Architecture would like to invite the UP Community (faculty, students, staff and the general public) to celebrate this launch with us.
