UPCA Research Holds Seminar for AY 2026–2027, Draws Over 100 Participants

Quezon City, Philippines — September 5, 2026

The UP College of Architecture (UPCA) welcomed its new and continuing students to Academic Year 2026–2027 with its annual Research Seminar, held on Saturday morning, September 5, 2026. Organized by the Office of the Research Program (ORP), the seminar brought together more than 100 participants — faculty, staff, and students from across UPCA’s programs — for a series of conversations centered on doing research well, not just completing it.

Beyond Coursework: Research Done Responsibly

Framing the day’s discussions, the ORP emphasized that research is not only about fulfilling academic requirements. It is equally about engaging with credible knowledge, upholding integrity in the research process, and sharing what is learned with the wider community. That philosophy shaped the seminar’s four key themes:

  • Research Integrity — cultivating sound, honest research practices from the outset
  • Research Ethics — understanding ethical obligations in the conduct of research
  • Library Resources — making full use of the tools and support available through the UPCA Library
  • Research Publication — finding the right pathways to share completed work, including through UPCA’s own journals, MUHON and SANYATA

Together, these sessions traced a path for students from the earliest stages of developing good research habits to the eventual publication of their work.

A Collaborative Effort

The seminar was hosted by Ar. Nap Ibañez, Jr., who joined despite challenging weather conditions on the day of the event. The program was made possible through the collaboration of several units and individuals:

  • The Office of the Research Program (ORP) team, led by L.Arch. Cindy Nadal and Ar. Tricia
  • The UPCA Library, represented by Sir Lyle
  • The Integrated Graduate Program (IGP) team, Oliver and Matt
  • The UP Diliman Task Force on Research Integrity, represented by Ms. Karina and Dr. Mark
  • The UP Diliman Research Ethics Board, represented by Ms. Gretchen

Looking Ahead

With over 100 students and faculty members in attendance, the seminar underscored UPCA’s continuing commitment to cultivating researchers who are not only curious and critical, but also responsible in how they produce and share knowledge. The ORP extended its thanks to all who gave up a Saturday morning to take part in the conversation, and encouraged the UPCA community to carry these principles forward into the research work ahead for AY 2026–2027.
